We do one thing to understand it rather than finish it. We read a book to discover the actions we can take afterward. Adding another book to the checklist isn’t the point. Do it completely to get the later effortless benefit. Also, always keep the fundamental principles in mind to understand why and how it works. Second, automate what can be automatic so that we can focus on what matters most. Third, do not leave the little problem because it is small; over time, what it takes is tremendous. Fourth, do not overdo it, as marginal benefit can have negative effects.
Actions I Take
Through vibe coding, I automate the family’s daily expenses. Originally, my wife typed down how much we spent on the social media app, and I was in charge of entering the records into the Google Cloud Sheet. It takes time and is tedious to move data around, and what is even worse, hard to bring the insight to us. The value of data is not revealed if we only record the data and do nothing. With the use of vibe coding and a lightweight cloud server, now, what my wife and I type in the chatroom is sent to a cloud AI to parse the daily expense data into a CSV file. Next, the cloud AI reads the CSV file and provides us with insights to control our budget and expenses better.
Second, I remind myself not to overdo it, whether at work or in any other role I take on. This works especially well for engineering work. Rest not only makes the work more efficient but also benefits my mental and physical health. This is an ongoing thought I’m weaving into my daily habits.
Another working mindset is to catch the fundamental principles. This is all about patience. In the rapidly changing world, I try to practice prioritizing what is valuable to learn and learn it completely. This also echoes what Munger has said. Understand the fundamentals and extend them to a variety of subjects.
